The person in my life that guided me most in outdoor interests, was a brother-in-law, new to the family, just when I was of an age that needed wholesome activities.

My father and older brothers were not hunters or fishermen, they might have wanted to be, but in my case, the youngest of nine children, I think my father was mostly busy making ends meet, my older brothers and sisters were pretty much in the same boat.

Then along came "Ol Joe" a farm raised Kentucky boy, new to the rural areas of South Florida. Even though there was a 15 year age difference we hit it off great, and it was the beginning of many years of hunts, adventures, and misguided adventures, the misguided adventures being the general rule.

It would be hard to find a better friend, a more enthusiastic outdoorsman, always smiling even when things went wrong.

This past weekend I was fortunate enough to take a buck, a small seven point rack, but a trophy to me. I put my hand on the rack, looked up at the blue sky and said "it was a good hunt Ol Pard wish you were here". I like to think he was...
